In 2010 thousands of people submitted ghost stories to The Daily Telegraph’s first ghost story competition. Standards were chillingly high and only the spookiest went through to the shortlist of six. Presented here are short stories from Gill Baconnier, Justin Crozier, Ceri Hughes, Pat Black, Craig Drew and the winner, Richard Crompton, whose story ‘Friends’ is an uncanny take on social networking. Currently available only in ebook form they are the perfect company for a long winter’s night.

Unedited This book is confusing to read. It appears to be an unedited version. I needed to abandon reading the book as it was too confusing and frustrating. Perhaps if it were in the edited version I would give it a second chance. After speaking with some friends who are scholars and professors, I am now aware that these unedited versions exist so readers can provide feedback. Maybe that was noted when I purchased the e-book and I didn’t notice it.
Several short stories that will provide a scare The short stories presented in are pretty good. Some were scarier than others, and some were just plain creepy. An excellent way to spend an afternoon. My favorites are: Daniel’s Caul, and Gimme Shelter, but they are all good.
Not bad. I found the stories in this book to be a pretty decent read. There is definitely a need for editing, but the stories themselves aren’t bad. They were not scary to me, maybe a couple were a little creepy but nothing to leave the lights on for. Overall, in my opinion, this book is not a bad bedtime read.
